I've been with my boyfriend for almost a year now and in the beginning I didn't realize he had a chemical dependency. He's addicted to pain medication.

He's making an effort to change, but I've caught him in multiple lies and I don't know if I can trust him now.

He associates TREMENDOUS pain with cheating, so I'm questioning...

If he can lie about this, will he lie about other things?

If he finds a girl who LIKES to party, will he leave me for her?

I know how to party when the time is right, but my boyfriend seems to want to party under any circumstances.

I love him to death, but I'm wondering if this is a deal breaker?

Also... I'm not sure if it's him or the drug use, but sometimes he is a sweetheart and other times... I think horns are going to pop out of his ass.

What's with these mood swings and how can you talk to an angry boyfriend without p!ssing him off further, because he seems to take my constructive criticism as nagging.

I feel like I have found a comfort zone with him that I can't reach with anyone else. It's just that a lot of times he treats me poorly and lies... then we'll "break up" and all of a sudden he wants to be nice again.

It's like I have to threaten to leave, for him to see what he's capable of losing. I'm tired of going through these games with him. Not to mention, he is completely delusional and when we fight, his side makes no sense. I don't know how to argue with someone who can't even make sense!

- getting that tattoo of that totally hot singer you had a crush on as a kid but you're not sure since you might be sending yourself the wrong message now that you’ve learned he is a homomomomomo

- going totally Supreme Mega Vegan by giving up all meat, dairy, fish, and sunlight... but you're still not sure if you want to survive on only certified organic leaves of raw spinach while washing it down with water you personally collect from locally produced rain puddles

- getting those small metal rings pierced into your um... well a place that will make it sound like you're always carrying with loose change

You're still enjoying the drama of his mood-swings. The adrenaline rush of the arguments and break-ups.

Perhaps soon you will be entirely fed up with his behavior. At THAT point, I can really help you move on.

But for right now, I'll tell it to you like it is...

Your boyfriend has a big problem. But he doesn't see it as a problem, he sees it as a hobby.

PROBLEMS THAT ARE OFTEN CONFUSED WITH HOBBIES

- cleaning your um, passion area, in the shower until the local authorities must declare a drought emergency

- engaging in hours of daily online virtual role playing games

NERD: I do NOT have a problem! ... My avatar does! You try reasoning with a mutant hobgoblin orc addled by opium and hallucinogenic mushroom potions! I HAVE to play to save him! Now if you'll excuse me... it's been 10 minutes since I've logged off! Must. Stop. Twitching!

He ENJOYS his addiction. And WHY should he stop? Because you THREATEN to leave him when he knows you really won't if he's sweet to you for a few days?

He can have both his drugs AND you! Why SHOULD he change? You are helping him to keep everything the same!

I haven't seen him to know if these drugs are really harming him. Usually the drugs WILL destroy a person... are you concerned with that? Or are you mostly concerned that these drugs are making him annoying to you?

OK, so you’ve caught him lying about taking the drugs. That's pretty standard for an addict who cares more about his drugs than anything else.

Right now, he'd rather lose you than the drugs. Keep that in mind. You are in 2nd place.

Is this a sign that he will he lie to you about other stuff?...
