You -- yes YOU -- must fulfill your purpose.

Actually, it's more than that.

You have an OBLIGATION to fulfill your purpose.

YOU: But uh, what is my purpose?

It's what makes you feel like you are important.

Only you know what that is.

What makes you feel important? For some of you that means being a mother or father of a happy family. For some of you that means being highly successful in your career. Maybe it means you contribute significantly to a cause.

Maybe it means that you help others.

It is something positive. And it is something that has lived inside of you for a long time.

And I'm not here to tell you to go for it. I'm here to tell you that you MUST complete it.

You must EXPECT this from yourself.

And pay attention to this... be flexible.

Be as flexible as a double-jointed ballerina whose boss lets her telecommute on Fridays. Dammit! I need to get better at analogies! I suck at analogies like....uh... DAMMIT!

For instance, if you believed your purpose was to be an amazing athlete who brought joy to millions of spectators.... but injury or age has limited you... you are wrong. You are NOT limited. You are ENHANCED. This was not your mission. You have a new mission.

Some of the most influential world-class athletic coaches are amazing humans who at one time thought their mission was to become an athlete. But really, it was to GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING of the sport in a way no one else could.

I have a friend who wanted to be that star athlete. It didn’t happen for him. But he also loved medicine. Now he's a surgeon who heals athletes. He is involved in the sport he loves and he is contributing in a BIG way. Everyday that he wakes up for work, he feels GREAT.

The key is to know what you love. What you love is what you invest your time into. What you invest your time into is where you have the opportunity to become SPECIAL.

So what in the heckers does this have to do with relationships?

Everything.

Expect the best from yourself and from your partner.

Expect that you will be caring and gentle with this other person's heart. Expect that you will be brave for them when it comes to announcing your real feelings and fears. Expect yourself to be bold and daring. Expect your partner to be a good person. Expect sweetness. Expect them to maintain their appearance. Expect them to keep their fun parts only for you.

And by "fun parts" I mean their tasty-region. And by tasty-region, I mean their passion area. And by passion area, I mean their baby making... pokey parts!

People live DOWN to low expectations. I was a teacher and I saw...
